Welcome

Christian Formation provides opportunities for deepening our Christian faith and prepares us to share our ministries. Christian formation is for all ages, children, youth and adults, providing opportunities for learning, fellowship, renewal and faith exploration.

Here you can find information and resources for Christian formation for all ages. We invite you to explore your faith in the midst of others who share in the life long process of faith formation.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Christian Formation is to form a community dedicated to the lifelong journey of Christian formation and to provide resources, support, and educational opportunities to enhance the ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Kentucky.

Summary of the April Christian Formation Leadership Conference:

Friday, April 18 to Saturday, April 19, the Christian Formation Department sponsored a  Christian Formation Leadership Conference at the All Saints Episcopal Conference Center.
We are grateful to all those who served as workshop facilitators, participants,
volunteers, and especially Bishop Gulick for his awesome plenary lecture, as well as the staff who made our stay so comfortable and welcoming.
On Friday night our Bishop reminded us of the tragic news story of the Amish schoolchildren murdered in their classroom a few years ago. After describing the love the Amish community lavished on the murderer's family Bishop Ted challenged us: "Are we forming that kind of Christians in our Sunday Schools?" In reminding us that, in Christian Formation, the teacher is the curriculum far more than any purchased package of crafts and activities, he encouraged us to become people who live lives that matter and who call others to live into their identity as Christians.
Cortney Dale intrigued us with information about the mission she is about to
undertake. If you read her article in the recent newsletter, and need her
address for donations: contact the diocesan office or email us at dioformation@episcopalky.org
Every one of the 11 workshops provided an opportunity for the participants to experience joy, nurture or challenge themselves, or deepen their knowledge and love of this profession - often all at once. We are deeply grateful to all of the presenters, as well as to all the participants whose attention gave depth and meaning to the workshops.
In addition to the many ways Bishop Gulick presented the mission of Christian Formation, here are a few more thoughts that were defined by the participants at the conference:
God's reconciling God's people back to God
Living our baptismal covenant
Spiritual journey, lifelong journey
Growing into Christ
Living into God's love
Becoming people with lives that matter - intentional Christians
Developing practices that transform live communities

MDG & Christian Formation:
The Peace and Justice Division wants every Episcopalian in our diocese to know about the UN Millennial Development Goals. We hope to visit every congregation to make a presentation about the MDG and to offer our help as the congregations decide how they will become involved in supporting the goals. We would particularly love to come and talk with the youth of our diocese about the MDG and how they can become involved. Please give us a call if you would like us to come to meet with your youth group, Christian formation class or to a youth event. We can make a presentation about the goals, lead discussions as to how young people can support the goals and/or serve as resources as you develop your plans.
